Look Great, Be Great, Do Great

Look Great, Be Great, Do Great

Over the last few years I have been asked to write about image, fashion, style, and most of all Brand.   I want to share the secrets of being all one can be and I am often told that my blogs offer too much information. From the temporal perspective I agree, I have seen my quotes on other sites without proper recognition, I have seen my seminars copied by people who are less than qualified to teach them and I have seen my website rewritten by others who want to make money off of other people without really helping them succeed in life.  So I decided to share the differences between writing an article, sharing a story and living a life, when it comes to Image, Fashion and Brand.  I am humbled by the opportunity to share with everyone, and anyone can copy my ideas and programs, but it takes the real thing to turn them into reality. I hope to continue to share what God has allowed me to learn and experience with anyone who can read my blogs, visit my site or attend one of my seminars or special retail events.  I hope this blog inspires you to reach out of your comfort zone to help others and to, Do Great!

LOOK GREAT

We can all read an article in a magazine or the newspaper, even watch a special on fashion on TV or the Internet and learn how to "Look Great."  We have numerous options and opinions when it comes to LOOKING GREAT, and we all can find something in our price range that may be an improvement on the "Look" we present.  I have seen women and men who look like they just stepped out of a magazine and on the outside: They Look Great.  I have spoken to companies that have exotic offices and astronomical advertising budgets and they too LOOK GREAT.  In the end, looking great is not enough. There is something more.

BE GREAT

There are websites, books, people and seminars that can help you to be great in the eyes of the world.  You know the line, 'BE ALL YOU CAN BE.'  We are often told to read a certain book in order to be the richest person in the world, or run your company like this or that and your business will be the best business in the world.  Let me share from life experience that the value of life is not determined by how MUCH you have. I have met truly wealthy people with toys all over the place who are looking great, seem to be doing great, but inside they are miserable. Being great begins with learning and getting smarter. It comes from growing mentally and emotionally.

You can have great potential and you can look great.  I know of great companies that have amazing ideas and products.  They, like these great' people, are out and about in the community, providing a service and making a profit - but still the soul of the person or the business is shallow. Their mark in the community is self-serving, and the legacy they leave behind dies off as soon as the latest gadget is sold or the fashion and fads change.  Taking step one, LOOKING GREAT and step two BEING GREAT are good steps to take but this final action is the one that creates a lasting and positive "BRAND."  A legacy and Image that brings everything to a focal point and makes people say WOW.  This is the step where businesses grow and generations benefit from your or the companies existence.

DO GREAT

Doing great is where the rubber meets the road.  It is where "The Fruit of Your Life" tastes sweetest to the community you live in and for businesses, the clients they serve.  The key is to DO GREAT, and that means an action.  We have people in Washington DC who Look Great, they may even Be Great, but are they doing great?  What about your business, or your life in front of our family and peers?  DO GREAT starts with humility, a clear understanding that you may LOOK GREAT and even BE GREAT, but no matter what you wear or what you know, you or a business must understand that you are created for a purpose that is greater than YOU.

For a business that means an understanding of thinking long-term, and building something that changes the world and doesn't just sell to it.  It means being profitable without destroying the environment or taking advantage of someone else.

It does not mean you always feed a person but you actually teach them to feed themselves. DO GREAT means sacrifice.  We all want to Look Great , Be Great, and DO Great, but do we have to sacrifice to achieve it?  That is something we just don't like to hear. Great parents sacrifice, great companies sacrifice and great leaders sacrifice. Being a servant is what it means to DO GREAT, it is understanding that the world is not here for YOU but you are here for the WORLD.  Serve your family, Serve your peers, Serve your clients and in business serve the shareholder and increase their long term value in your business. Many of our top schools are failing to teach people to serve, and we wonder why ethics are not making it into the business community. Real ethics begin with sacrifice. How many people would take a class, or attend a seminar where the title is "Learn How to Sacrifice for the World?"  We need to start learning that at home, at school and in business; the winner is the one who helps the most, not the one who HAS THE MOST.

This is where Brand is a statement, this is where Looking Great (magazines and fashionistas) and Being Great (super strength or intellect), and Doing Great (action, humility and serving others) comes together to make a visual image that is supported by ones actions.  This is what a Brand Consultant and Image Consultant understands and shares.  Ask yourself, are you the real thing?  Do your actions match your image?  Does your image communicate the truth about who you really are?

It is not easy to establish a deep and lasting Brand.  It takes a commitment, a willingness to learn and action.  The greatest diamonds become real jewels once they are under the cuts of a chisel.  A nail can't accomplish its purpose unless it is struck by a hammer.  The same is true for Brand.

Schools can influence our young people, businesses can seek to serve a greater good and make a profit and individuals can LOOK GREAT, BE GREAT and DO GREAT and change the world.  I want to help you and your businesses take a "Look," and turn it into a "Brand."  I hope that this Blog helps you see the difference.  Enjoy the magazines, dream and expand your mind, and then act on what you see and what you learn. Let your Brand say it all!!!

An Ironed Man is a Wealthy Man...
clear

Or so says the September edition of Men's Health...They go on to say that "Prosperous men don't wear wrinkled clothes...Until you make it, fake it."

I agree with the wrinkled part.  Even an inexpensive shirt can look like a million bucks if it fits well and is clean and pressed.  Many people would be hard pressed to know the difference between a $50 shirt and a $350 shirt if those pieces are in place.  The picture above is from the Men's page on Nordstrom.com - They are absolutely right!  Once you find the right size, you must find the right FIT.

When you have on a wrinkled shirt it speaks FOR you and it rarely has anything good to say...
It might say:

  • I don't pay attention to details.
  • I am not trustworthy.
  • I don't respect the person I'm meeting.
  • I am unaware of the need to dress well when I'm meeting someone new.
  • I don't care what you think about me.

My tip for you would be to try on a slim, modern or narrow fitting shirt - EVEN IF YOU DON'T THINK YOU CAN.  Most men wear shirts that are billowy and are poorly fitted.  The shirt should fit up against your body but still give you enough room to breathe.  For those men who have problems finding the right shirt, let me help you!  If your dimensions make it hard to find a shirt 'off the rack," that is ok - I work with the most incredible tailor and together we can make you a shirt that says success.

Great Tip: Don't lace your wingtips like a sneaker!

I'm going to borrow another tip from Men's Health since it's one I've always agreed with!  They say that the crisscross lacing style you learned as a kid is ok for your tennis shoes, not for a good pair of leather brogues.  (The ones in the picture are from Johnston & Murphy; Tyndall Wingtip).

Fashion is in the little details.  A good fit, laces done right, groomed properly and so on...You don't have to break the bank to look like you own the bank.

It is the perfect time to book a consultation.  Fall lends itself to investing in the basics that are seasonless as well as a few warmer pieces to get you through the wintery months.

Pigs, Frogs and Princes!
clear

2011 has begun and it's time to get real!  We just finished a tough year in 2010 and we all saw the effects of "Faking It Till You Make It."  Men, you need some true direct and real advice on not just looking your best but being your best.  Like most articles that are for men, the women can learn something here too.  So everyone pay attention and follow along...This story is about Pigs, Frogs and Princes.

I am so tired of reading articles and advertisements that say "Clothes Make the Man."  Nothing could be further from the truth, or more deceptive.  The fashion world has made millions selling this lie, and women have wasted years trying to fix dead or dying relationships, while hoping if they can repackage their man he will be better.  Let's all finally come clean; whenever you dress up a pig you still have a pig!  You can clean the pig, change his hairstyle, even send him to school in a brand new outfit, but a dressed up, educated pig is still a pig.  So men, if you're a pig, it doesn't matter what you wear you're still a pig.  There is only one cure for you…You must change on the inside, become a "new creature."   This would begin wtih eliminating any bad habits, self-centered desires and narcissistic views on life.

Now, if you're just a little dirty on the outside, green, sloppy, easily lost in a crowded pond of people, but care about others with a sincere and truthful spirit - then you're probably a frog.  The great thing about frogs is they want to change - they want to change the outside and improve their inside, but just need a special look and style that helps them standout in a crowd.  They need that perfect fashion wand that can show them their unique and special style.  When you take a frog, give him a new skin, change his perception of himself and who he is, you can turn a frog into a prince!

Do not be confused, everyone can look great.  The right fashion can make even a pig look good, but clothing never changes the man.  A man must want to change.  Fashion is supposed to be a reflection of the inner man.  If you want to be a real prince, you have to appreciate life and become a "Class Act."  Fashion will not give you CLASS; only the right style matched up with a good hearted man can create a "real prince."

So if you want to create a real change in your life in 2011, it will take more than a diet and a new wardrobe.   Real change starts on the inside.  The PIG needs to become a NEW CREATURE, the frog needs a new skin and the prince just needs to get updated.  Before you head to the store, before you hire a stylist and before you spend your money ask yourself; Am I a Pig, frog or Prince?  If you do not know the answer to that, then ask someone else who is trustworthy, truthful and genuinely cares about you.  Odds are, if you think you're amazing, that the world revolves around you, that you're important to the world, and that you're perfect on the inside, then you are most likely a PIG.  I would suggest finding a great Bible based church, seek counseling, search to know your creator, change on the inside first, then head out and find a stylist that can help you celebrate the NEW YOU and match your re-created inside with a new wardrobe that says who you really are!

If you care about others, want to make a difference in the world, believe in truth and honor but seem to disappear in a crowd then you're probably a frog.  Find a good stylist, talk about what you believe and what you want to share with the world, then let that stylists match your goals and ambitions with the right fashion and details and watch as you, (THE FROG) turn into a prince.

If you believe that you have all of the good characteristics described in the qualities of a frog such as; love for your family, respect others, honest work ethic and an appreciative heart - then you're probably a Prince.  All you need is an update on your fashion. Hire a stylist; get the right fit and looks that reflect who you are on the inside and your role in life on the outside.

Clothes do not make the man and fashion cannot make a bad man a good man. Real Men' are full of love, loyalty, honor and respect.  They care about others and understand that success begins on the inside.  Their fashion only magnifies the good heart that beats within them. Fashion and style only highlight what they believe, it is does not determine who they are.

Enjoy 2011, look your best, be your best and make a positive impact on the world.  The world is waiting to see and hear the new you.  Get started and make 2011 your year!!!  If your looking for a good fashion consultant, give me a call.  I enjoy helping pigs change, frogs transform and princes Shine.

God bless and I wish you the best in 2011!

The Boys of Summer
clear

Who are the boys of summer? Well I can tell you they are as American as apple pie and Chevrolet.  That's right; the boys of summer are on the ball diamonds all over America, playing baseball in crowded stadiums dressed in their game day uniforms.  Men and your uniforms, it's a known fact that women love a man in a uniform, so the boys of summer have a special place in my heart.  We all have a uniform we wear every day.  In the Military, it's the uniform that makes the men look so strong and proud.  In football, it's the uniform that identifies our favorite teams, and we have a uniform in business as well.  For some, the uniform is the great suit that fits just right - for others, it's the casual clothing and attire worn in a way that says you are put together.

Every golfer looks great in their golf shirts and custom fit pants. How does your uniform look? What is it saying about you?  Do you even know anymore?  We would all laugh if our ball players came out on the field with mismatched socks, sloppy shirts and ragged pants.   Every day you get dressed and head out the door, you are walking onto your ball field.  Everyone is looking - so be prepared.  Put on the right uniform for the right reasons.  Casual clothing can always look great; there is no excuse for sloppy dress on casual Fridays.  For work, you can wear a sport coat or nicely pressed shirt and pants and make a statement that represents the "real player" in the clothes.  Does your uniform say organized and detailed?  Does your uniform say that you are ready for business, awake and excited?  You need to focus on your uniform and make certain that you are in the game!

I can help you put together the best uniform for the right game for the right event and for the right experience. Colors are important and say something about your personality.  Just like the colors that define your favorite team.  Shoes, well let's face it, sloppy shoes mean you're not steady and you just do not care about the foundation of uniform.  NO good player is ever without good shoes and you should not be either.  So from head to toe, you need the  right uniform and I am here to help you create the winning image and the best look that will increase your odds of winning in the game of life.  SO to all the Boys of Summer,' I salute you and we are all watching to see just how good your uniform looks.  Call me and let's turn your closet into the locker room for winners!
