December Newsletter - Gift Ideas, Blogs, News and More!

Merry Christmas!  What an incredible time of year.  Instead of a December newsletter, I have included a link to my column on Brentwoodhomepage.com if you are in the Nashville area, this can be your last minute gift guide.  If you are outside of Nashville, there are some wonderful ideas for you! Click here to read the entire article!

After the wake of the tragedy last week, we should all take a moment to pray for those who are hurting.  Tomorrow is never promised and this year, let's focus on what is most important.  Take the time to give extra hugs to those you love, call those you may have fallen out of touch with and mend fences with family members before it is too late.  This season I am so thankful to all of you, my clients and my friends who I am so honored to know and serve.  We look forward to seeing you in 2013.

I hope you have a blessed Holiday Season and a joyous New Year!

Warmest Wishes,

Mila

BrentwoodHomepage.com - Gift Ideas!

The Christmas season is in full swing.  There is definitely an art to choosing just the right gift for those special people in your life.  Luckily, we are blessed to live in a city that has such incredible options for us.  The key is to be thoughtful in your choices. Purchase pieces that can be meaningful and passed down, items that can be looked at each day so they can be reminded of you and the care you took to select a piece that actually meant something.  Less is more when giving a gift think beyond the immediate.  Expensive does not mean special or thoughtful.  It doesn't need to say "hip" or "cool."

BLOG: Dirt and Mud Fashion Never Looked so Good!

I must admit at times, I find myself getting caught up in the world of marketing and false realities that come from some of today's fashion magazines and their advertisements concerning what looks great must also make the wearer great.  You know the comment, The Clothes Make the Man.' Well that statement is so true in the story I am about to tell and I hope it helps you understand what is really important when it comes to your image.  As an image consultant I am hired by my individual clients to assist them with creating, sharing, and in many ways promoting their own 'Personal and Professional Brand' to the world around them. I can assure you that fashion, no matter how good it is, how expensive the clothing or how trendy it appears, can never replace true character especially when it comes to LOVE and Loyalty!

BLOG: Is Your Image Like Play-Doh?

Do not be confused by the mannequins at the store; they are cold and impersonal.  Don't try to dress just like the model in the magazine; that person is not you.  Personal shoppers and some stylists are great for helping you find your clothes in the store or trying to make you trendy for the moment, but I suggest you define who you are, determine what you like, and then create a work of art.  Your goal is an image that lasts!  It's time to put up the play-doh.

Dirt and Mud Fashion never Looked So Good
clear

Allow me to share why Dirt and Mud fashion never looked so good and how all women would take the mud over the fine apparel and professional suit any day of the week. Over the last year I have met and shared with several families that are struggling as the men in the family have lost their jobs due to economic reasons beyond their control or other personal challenges.  In one week, I visited with two clients and listened to their stories and how they hoped I could help them change the image of their out of work husbands and prepare them for interviews in new career fields.  In the first home, I spoke with the wife for several hours prior to meeting her husband and we had a "Stories from the Closet" moment as she finally shared that her husband had the best suits, everyone thought he was so successful and that their marriage was the picture of perfection.  Truth was, once the suit was taken away, their marriage was struggling, he had been unfaithful and even while out of work he was unwilling to take a job that did not reflect the professional position he felt he deserved - even though they were going broke and were about to lose their home.  I also met another family later that week and while I did not have a lot of personal conversation with the wife of my potential client, she beamed with joy as she told me how wonderful her husband was.  I asked what he was currently doing for work since he had lost his executive job and she smiled, well he is doing construction work and manual labor.  She said it was not quite the job he was used to, but he was willing to do whatever it took to provide for his family. When the husband arrived, he pulled up in the driveway in a nice sedan car and I expected to see one outfit when instead I got something else. He was covered from head to toe in mud and dirt, a towel was in the seat of the car and plastic was the floor mat. Thankfully the dirt was all over him and not the car.  This woman ran to him and introduced me and said "Honey this is Mila, and she is going to help you create the best image for your upcoming interviews; she is going to make you shine."  Admittedly, I can be a huge sap so of course, a tear came to my eye.  The picture they painted was one everyone wants when the tough times come, which they will, they had each other and were willing to work.  She has a man that loves her, is loyal, and will do whatever it takes to provide for their family - when it comes to creating the right image, I can say that dirt and mud never looked so good.

So what is my point?  Image is about reflecting who you really are, and in this case I was so excited to help my new muddy dirty friend, as who he was on the inside was truly a joy to reflect on the outside.  Character counts and what you wear is not character, but character can be defined in many ways by the actions one will take when the people they love are hurting and in need.  I just wanted to share, that sometimes... Mud and Dirt never looks so good!!!

Don't get lost in the fashion, but examine the heart.  True success is not determined by the clothing but rather by the character of the person who wears them.

Please keep me in mind if MODA Image Consulting can help you create and share your Personal and Professional Brand.' Sometimes that may mean mud and dirt!

Soli Deo Gloria - What does that mean and why is it on your website?
clear

This is a statement that is on each page of the website.  I am often asked why it is on there and thought I would write a quick blog to answer these questions.

There are moments in one's life when one really understands the importance of why we are here.  You know the moments that I am talking about…moments like the beauty of a baby's first cry, or the "I am ok" from a child when you see the car wreck, or the "I DO" moments when one marries a soul mate.  Then there are the moments of pleasure from giving, like Christmas morning and a 3 year old daughter, or a warm meal and clothing on a cold night for one who is down and out, or simply holding hands with an aging parent who has lost their way.  I have had such moments in my life, those moments when I understand that this life of mine is really not about me, but about the reason for which I even exist.

In the world of fashion, marketing, brand and style, we can easily get lost in a message from companies and people that scream, 'YOU ARE SO IMPORTANT and EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE YOU.'  You know the commercials and messages that tell you HOW MUCH YOU DESERVE and THE WORLD REALLY TURNS AROUND YOU.  I have been blessed by my creator in ways that I can't even begin to explain.  So I choose to share all HE has done for me and my family in everything that I do.  It is just so easy to get caught up in the things that do not matter, or to do things half-heartedly.  If all things are done to the glory of God, we work for Him and do the best we can in all we do - even on those days we are tired or distracted.  The successes are His alone, and we realize every gift, every client, every seminar, every meeting is because of Him and we should honor our commitments personally and professionally with that in mind.

The idea of celebrating a life born into this world 2000 years ago, a life that changed the world forever is so exciting and it is the reason for the CHRISTmas season - and for me, it is the beginning of true Life.  So I share where I know all Glory truly falls, it is not on this creature that was created but rather on the creator.  I always want to Give God all the Glory, and share with others the hope that is eternal and turn my life into a statement that says: Soli Deo Gloria: To God Be The Glory.

Thank you for noticing my site, and take some time during this Holiday Season to reflect how LOVED WE ARE and know that God loves you, HE always has and HE always will.

On that note, I would like to recommend a great book by one of my favorite pastors who I listen to daily.  God Loves You: He Always Has--He Always Will by David Jeremiah.

May God Bless You and Yours,
Mila

Is your Image like Play-Doh?
clear

Just the other day I was watching my three year old play with play-doh.  You may recall the moldable goo that we all had fun with. You could create something, then ball it all up and start all over again.  As I watched the fun, it occurred to me that fashion and style has become more like play-doh than it has about art and statement.  As a true image consultant, I am focused on images that last.  Fashion and style that has a sense of permanence.

Each client is a work of art; a fine painting that does not lose its value because the moods of the world have changed.  Some in the industry of fashion and style tend to think their clients are more like play-doh. Something to be created and recreated over and over again, always bending to the world around them versus helping them to simply represent who they are. Remember men and women, Character Should Be a Constant Class is not defined by father time, but rather by strength of one's self and their beliefs.  Your image should always reflect your character and who you are, while never offending the viewer but rather inviting them into conversation and relationship.  Image is not the latest trend, the latest sale, or the latest magazine. Image is not play-doh, but rather a Salvador Dali or Pablo Picasso…A sculpture that can stand out in the rain, the sun, the night and the dark. Your life changes, and what you wear changes, but your IMAGE is constant.

If I can help you determine, define or improve your "Personal or Professional Brand," please give me a call.  I love to help people get more out of life and to create something of value.

Happy Thanksgiving! What are you thankful for?
clear

Gobble Gobble

You just have to love this time of year.  The weather changes, the trees are full of color, football games and an excitement in the air about the holidays.   Great food is one of my favorite parts, and then the follow-up exercise programs to work off the turkey, pies and delicious cookies for the next 2 months.

This year I am most thankful for my family, our health and the incredibly blessed year we have had at MODA Image Consulting.  What about you; what are you thankful for?  Please let me know as I love to hear about the lives of others and join them in their celebrations or their prayers.

Visit with me at www.ModaImageConsulting.com; flip through the current and past newsletters along with my blogs and gain some new ideas on putting forth the BEST YOU this Holiday Season.  Christmas seems to come faster and faster every year, so this year I will have a few gift ideas and guaranteed stocking stuffer winners in our December newsletter.  Be certain to plan your list and make certain you and Santa are on the same page.  In the end, be certain and tell the important people in your life how much you love them and take some time to help those who are in need in the community.  While most of us are safe and warm at home, there are those who need a helping hand.  Share the joy with everyone this season and I look forward to reading about your story and serving you this coming year.

May God Bless You and Yours

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mila Grigg and the team at MODA Image Consulting

For many of us, the holidays can be overwhelming especially when it comes to the question of clothing.  Holiday parties and family functions can be stressful here are a few Thanksgiving fashion ideas for you!  The key is chic comfort.  Here are a few tips to feel great, and not look like you are trying too hard!  If you have any questions or would like MODA to help you, give us a ring!

Holistia Sweater & NYDJ 'Sheri' Coated Jeans Beatrix Ost Sweater Coat & NYDJ Corduroy Jeans  Splendid Shirt
Trouvé Shirt & 7 For All Mankind® Jeans LD13  LD14 NM Luxury Essentials Fur Vest, Crewneck Top & Leather Skinny Pants Neiman Marcus Cashmere Cardigan CoatLafayette 148 New York Ruched Mock-Neck Dress Pearlized Lace Collar 3/4 Sleeve Sweater

The idea is, DON'T BE BORING!  Invest in jeans and chords in fabulously rich colors including oxblood, creamy gold's and rusts.  Coated denim is in and it looks beautiful.  Not Your Daughter's Jeans (pic above) are some of my favorites with the criss- cross tummy tuck panel making you look like you shed at least 5lbs.

Sweaters do not have to be your average V-neck or crew neck knits.  Long, beautiful and feminine is the ticket...these give you some 'eating' room for Thanksgiving, but are still elegant and even a bit sexy.  Peter pan collars are so chic on sweaters as well - don't be afraid to try these on; you might just surprise yourself!  If you want to wear a silky button down, choose a color like the red one above - it's the holiday season and we should be festive!  Jean shirts look fresh paired with white denim or cream chords (pic above).  Make sure the denim shirt is fitted and not a thick, heavy material.  Make your jean shirt a bit more feminine with a lighter fabric.

Who doesn't love an easy dress that you can wear with cute tights and riding boots?  A ponte knit or sweater dress will keep you comfortable but still hug your curves just enough not to look frumpy.  Black is a great choice as it makes it more versatile - you can pair it with a colorful scarf, cognac color boots and merlot tights! (Spanx makes fantastic tights in numerous patters hint, hint) Remember, FUN is the name of the game!

A little bit of sparkle and shine never hurt anyone.  Play down the sparkle by adding a sweater over a shiny skirt (pic above), or layering a sequin tank under a warm sweater.  Faux fur is still in and looking better than ever...If you haven't ever tried on a faux fur vest, now is the time.  It adds a bit of glamour to your day and helps a basic long sleeved tee and regular jeans look fabulous.

Whatever you do, remember to celebrate who you are.  Let some of that light shine through and don't worry about what other people say...All we can do is be the best we can be and let the cards fall where they may.
