Fashion and Family
clear

I am often asked how I find the time to do all that I do and still keep up on my family and personal obligations.  The answer is easy for me because what I do is a part of who I am.   I love what I do and do what I love; which I believe is one of the keys to success in life.  Let me explain what I mean and hopefully I can help you turn your 'fashion' into more than clothes in the closet.

My values are simple.  Faith first, then family and then my career... My career as an Image Consultant and expert on fashion allows me utilize what I know in all of the important areas of my life.  There are some timeless qualities in life that are reflected by image and fashion. This is true for my faith in God, my love for my family and how I enjoy my career in the crazy world of fashion. I believe these qualities are that you have to love yourself before you can love others - You must invest in yourself, God defines who you are and fashion is the wrapping that shows others what you believe - It's what is inside you that is of greatest value; how you dress (the wrapping) is how you show the world that you love yourself as a person, you respect others and that you reflect what you believe in how you look.

Faith for instance - I dress accordingly, always looking my best and giving my faith the respect it deserves by preparing what I wear for the service I attend.  It's my belief that how I dress on the outside should reflect what I believe to be true on the inside.  How you look and the time you take to look your best says, I care about others and they deserve my best - whether this is your boss at work, your children, your husband or wife or your friends.  This is not a fashion show; it's about looking your best according to who you are and what you believe!

My family - as you can see I am surrounded by some beautiful girls!  With daughters running from 10 months to 18 years old - I believe it is important to show my girls that 'fashion' tells a story of who you are and what you believe and it is important to not get caught in trends or fashions that might say something negative.  Fashion trends and fads are not as important as we think, and it is vital to not give into peer pressure and to try to look like everyone else.  I tell them to let their fashion be an expression of how they feel about themselves.  Dress properly, be unique, don't be a part of the pack but rather set your own path.  I show them that elegance is more important than fitting in with the latest trend (think too short shorts, midriff baring shirts etc), and that quality is always better than quantity.  My girls understand how fashion should work FOR you - not AGAINST you, and helps you share who you are on the inside by sending out the right messages.  They have learned that quality clothing is worth saving for.  They know that we must budget for the clothes we buy and when we wait on the right clothing we learn something about fighting instant gratification.  Fashion is not about fitting in; it's about looking your best so you can set an example for others.  Trashy is never cool.  They know they can look their best, learn something about quality and appreciate the idea of saving for the special things they want.

Finally work.  I truly love what I do!  My goal is to always help women and men understand how fashion is a tool for success and can be a pleasure versus a chore or something we don't look forward to.  Everyone loves to look good because we feel a sense of confidence when our clothes fit and our outside reflects the intelligence and personality of the inside.  My family understands that when you work for someone or for yourself, it is important that your look says what you want it to say.  It's communicating without saying a word and it is a message that we can control!  Isn't this true in every area I have written about.  How you dress - the fashion that you follow, is always sending out messages.  It's telling your friends what kind of mood you're in, it's telling people at work what kind of job they can expect, and most importantly, it's showing the world that you love the life you have been given and that you respect yourself enough to make certain that what you wear fits not only your body shape but who you are and what you believe!

Do Not Let Fashion Define You - Make It Work for You

Do Not Let Fashion Define You - Make It Work for You

I must admit that sometimes even I fall prey to crafty marketers who have a goal to define who I think I am.  I enjoy great magazines and reading articles of interest and looking at some of the latest trends in the clothing world.  Some would call these trends fashion, I like to think of them as accessories that we place on our body to help us present our best personal and professional image. Yet, I have caught myself more than once looking at an ad in a magazine and thinking..." I wish I could look like that!"  The problem with that type of thinking isn't that you want to look good, but rather that you feel you can't look good unless you look like the ad.  You see, fashion is about YOU, it is not about the ad or the model that is wearing the clothes.  I have been dressing men and women for years and working with retailers and designers helping them put together "winning looks and combinations" that WORK FOR MY CLIENTS - it isn't about my clients working to look good in the clothes.

Great fashion is a tool; it is the outward statement of an inner thought and characteristic.  Clothing can be casual and send a message about how you feel, it can be professional and tell the world you're serious about your job or career, it can be exotic and say I am looking forward to a fun night or vacation experience.  Fashion is what you wear in order to define WHO YOU ARE - not the other way around.  Some women think they will look beautiful if they buy a certain dress or outfit, and men are no different.  I have male clients that tell me they look great in Hugo Boss suits when they really don't.  They just like the ad and think if they own that suit that they will look like the person in the ad or will have that persona.

At the root, fashion is what you want it to be to tell the world who you are.  There are some great designers and high quality clothiers that can help you look your best, and there are a few basics that everyone should have to their wardrobe.  In the end, the ads can give you some new ideas, but when it comes to spending your money, remember 'Fashion is about you and Your Message.'  You define the fashion by what YOU decide to wear.

I love to help my clients pick through all the available choices that exist today.  First, I LISTEN to what they want, I ASK questions about their life and careers, and then I help the match who they are with the clothing that works for them. THIS IS WHAT TRUE FASHION DOES - IT WORKS FOR YOU.

Let me know if I can help you make fashion a tool that you enjoy putting on each day.  Please e-mail me at mila@modaimageconsulting.com or call at 615.218.6831 for a complimentary consultation.  Email me to sign up for my monthly newsletter!

I hate to shop!! Hate it hate it hate it!!  I also don't like the way I look, but I guess most women feel that way.  Meeting and working with Mila has truly changed all of that.  I still don't like to shop ALONE.  Shopping with Mila is a fun, rewarding experience and now I like going into my closet.  Most of the  time I now get raves over my clothes and I feel good.  I spend my clothes dollars much more wisely now.  Things fit and they match and mix--even shoes and purses (who knew!)  One other thing...my husband, son and daughter are all Mila "grads" and all have more confidence and are looking great.  We "give Mila" as gifts for birthdays and Christmas--the gift that keeps on giving.
