Margaret Thatcher and BRAND; plus suits and bags!
Margaret Thatcher and Personal and Professional Brand’
What are the words that come to mind when you think about this leader?
- Strong?
- Hard-driving?
- THE Iron Lady?
Here is what Colin Powell had to say. Another leader who happens to have a strong Personal and Professional Brand.’
Thatcher, “exuded influence and power,” Powell said. “The hair style, the dress, her manner, the way in which she carried that handbag — when she walked into a room, you knew that somebody had arrived and you’d better be careful.”
Imagine, she did all that without saying ONE word. Do you know what your Personal and Professional Brand’ says when you walk into a room? Is it consistent? Is your image, fashion and presence telling your story? Margaret Thatcher was a world leader that used her Brand to sway the opinions of people. She represented the same BRAND when she was not in favor and when she was in favor. WHO she was did not change with popular opinion, and her Brand became a staple upon which everyone could begin to manage their expectations concerning her position on global, national and regional issues. Your Personal and Professional Brand’ should be negotiating and speaking for you within your sphere of influence and in your life in general. I have been preaching for years that “Brand” is not about the latest fashions or style. It is not about colors alone, shapes, trends or even fit. Your Personal and Professional Brand’ is a statement, it is consistent and it reflects all that makes you who you are. Just because something fits’ you or even looks good’ on you, doesn’t mean it is speaking your message and defining the words that send a message to the world about who you are. Your Personal and Professional Brand’ is your statement for your character and purpose.
If you want to buy a bunch of clothes and call that a Brand or WHO YOU are, then please revisit the value of your life. Clothes do not make the person, the person makes the clothes. Your Brand, Your Personal and Professional Brand’ is an all the time statement. It does not matter if it is at home, in the community or at work. It is created, managed and maintained – it is not bought at a store!
If you want to do more than just shop, if you want help in finding, creating and building “Your Brand,” please call me. I am excited about the opportunity to serve you. You may not be the next Margaret Thatcher, but you still have a world to influence that is looking for a leader that can be seen.
I would love to serve you. Please call us today for a complimentary consultation. I would love to see you at our 7th Ladies Night Out event – please read more about this event below. If you have any questions, please email us!
Warmest Regards,

If you work in a professional environment and wear suits – the best advice I can give you is this: Don’t go with BORING. Look for items with special cuts, designs, buttons and shapes – anything to add a bit of flair. Feeling feminine in a suit is not always easy. Rounded and scalloped edges, the right cut, accents on sleeves and well placed pockets are so important. Your body shape should be appropriately highlighted, not hidden.
Business casual has the same idea. Each piece should be special. Mix and match your suit jackets with your other slacks and skirts. Jackets always add a professional edge. Casual should not be the word that dictates your fashion decisions in a business casual environment. It is always important to be professional even in an environment where a matching suit isn’t required. Bags that can stand up’ give you a sense of authority and polish verses one that falls open and says sloppy. If you know your Personal and Professional Brand,’ your image should communicate that message. Sometimes it can be the littlest updates that create the largest impact to how others see you. Something as small as carrying a nicer pen to a meeting verses a Bic pen can make all the difference. Remember, someone is always watching and most are judging. Be the best that you were created to be each and every day…
Help the viewing world to see who you are on the inside by expressing your Brand properly on the outside. Don’t let opportunities pass you by because others assume you aren’t interested or qualified.
