But many Baby Boomers have felt left out. What’s a forty- or fiftysomething woman to do if she isn’t ready to shop at Coldwater Creek (CWTR) with her own mother but feels too mature for spaghetti straps and miniskirts?”
Hi Friends!
I wanted to share an article with you that I thought you might find interesting. I took the excerpt above from the article titled, “Clothing Stores Rediscover Boomers,” from the Money section of a recent edition of USA Today. The general theme is that clothing stores do not cater to middle-aged women. I know from experience that many of my clients come to me because they are frustrated by the clothing options they tell me that the choices are too frumpy, too old or too youthful. The CEO of Talbot’s was quoted in this article saying that she is trying to make an effort to bring in new styles, colors and fabrics to the store that cater to real women who aren’t ready to surrender.
“In their zeal to lure big-spending teens and twentysomethings, many stores seemed to forget that many Baby Boomer women favor clothes that blend the traditional and the stylish.”
The problem with finding clothes that work for you isn’t about a store, it’s about knowing who you are and what your individual style is. Once you know your likes and dislikes, and understand what works and doesn’t work for you body shape it is much easier to find clothes that work for you. You will never find an entire wardrobe at one specialty store whether it be Talbot’s, Chico’s or Ann Taylor the key is to buy pieces that work for you at a variety of small stores and department stores, and then knowing how to put them together to accomplish your style goals. A great way to show your individual style is through accessories, handbags, shoes and colors you can be unique and show you individuality even when you are at work if you know what pieces work for you.
Here are some of my favorite pieces’ from a variety of stores that are fun, feminine, classic and definitely not dowdy!’ If you are having trouble finding your own style, please call or e-mail to set up a complimentary consultation.
Happy Shopping!
