Beautiful, Bold and in the Bible
I am certain that many of you are just like me in the sense that you want to look your best and be all that God has made you to be. There are times when it just seems so unnatural to get dressed up and look sexy and beautiful. I know from firsthand experience that many of us have formed this FALSE position on showing and sharing our beauty and boldness because our mothers said we should not dress the part. For many women who I have personally spoken with that live with me in the fabulous Bible belt, it can almost be seen as an affront to our faith to dress in a manner that grabs our man’s eyes. Now, I agree there are fashion don’ts’ that are just wrong, but a tasteful sexiness is what we want! Our beauty is much deeper than on the surface, yet we should not just look like a dry piece of toast either. With this in mind, I have put together some interesting women from the Old Testament, right out of the Bible, whom God described as beautiful and seductive, and very strong and bold. So read along, enjoy the stories and descriptions and embrace that God has made you as a beautiful work of art, inside and out. You will note that I have offered you the Bible verses that correspond with the WOMEN OF BEAUTY and BRILLIANCE, so feel free to explore the scriptures on your own to see what the Lord has to say directly to you through the Holy Spirit!
We note right off the bat that God created Eve and she is not only created, but created beautifully, perfect and finds no shame in her nakedness. I like to say that God saved the best of creation for His crowning achievement. In reality, God made woman as a helper, a partner, a person who completes the man. How fantastic! Without women, the world would not be complete! Read along in Genesis 2:22-25.
Then we come to Sarah, the wife of Abraham, the patriarch of Christian belief and father of faith. She is described as beautiful, even so beautiful that other men would want to kill Abraham in order to have her. Scripture says she was so good looking that the moment the Egyptians would SEE her they would recognize her beauty. WOW, don’t we all want to be seen in that way and take away the breath of the men we love? You can find this description in Genesis chapter 12 starting at verse 11. What is even better news is that she is described this way and she is 65 years old. The first woman is created beautiful and then we have Sarah who is described as breath taking at age 65. See where are never too old to look great!! They say fashion is for the young, I say that is nonsense, fashion is for the young at heart, no matter how old you are!
As we read in the Old Testament we come to Ruth who gets all dolled up and puts on her best perfume in order to attract Boaz. There is nothing wrong with adding our favorite scent for our night out on the town or a little splash for the day. (Ruth 3:3) Of course we all know the story of Bathsheba and David, and how her beauty caught his eye. (2 Samuel 11:3). As we read, sometimes our beauty can open doors, sometimes it can create favor, and sometimes, as in the case with Bathsheba, it can create problems. What I can share from Bathsheba is that beauty without character is a recipe for disaster. It is great to be beautiful and to embrace the feminine beauty God has bestowed upon us, but if we do not Honor God who created us, we will soon be a tool for problems. Character is everything!!!
One of my favorites is Esther, here we have a young virgin who is gorgeous by description and who also has amazing character. Her beauty did not come without some help, as we can read that she got 6 months of beauty treatments which consisted of hot bath oils, perfumes, myrrh and amazing cosmetics. Who would have thought, thousands of years ago even they all got a little help from the cosmetic department. Esther’s beauty won over her king and in the end the favor of God fell upon her – it was her beauty and her BOLDNESS and bravery that saved her entire race. WOW! She dressed up in the best outfits and looked her best and then she approached the king. I really like Esther as she was not afraid of her beauty, and she did not GIVE IT AWAY. She did understand that she had it as a gift from God and she did all she could to look her best. She was Bold, Beautiful and Brave. (Esther 2)
Shulamite was a woman’s woman. She used great shoes, perfumes, beautiful sexy garments and a touch of mystery to create a burning desire within Solomon that only added to their relationship and love. We have the same choices today! The Word of God makes me smile as I can get the right grasp of perfection; the reality is that no one is perfect and we can all improve on our lives. Starting with Eve and the beginning of all creation all the way through Shulamite we find some area of all life that can be improved.
All that said, I am excited to be a woman. Thankful that God has given me a mind and a body. Thankful that my beauty is described as my character, my spiritual walk with my God and my outer appearance. We all have flaws, just as God’s original creation all the way through Shulamite in the Old Testament. Yet if we all take the time to look our best, we can address a few imperfections with some confidence and fashion. Image is more than clothing, it is our Character, our Brilliance and our Fashion all coming together to embrace what we are called to be, a WOMAN created by God.
